Orca Books launched its push for new members and donations in its efforts to transition to a community-owned multistakeholder cooperative. In an email to volunteers, the steering committee stated, “our goal is now to raise $200,000 by the end of the year (we have raised about $30,000 as of the end of August). The remaining money will be raised through a combination of online donations through our GoFundMe campaign, and the continued sale of co-op memberships (both in-store and online).

Membership discounts for people who purchase a membership on or before the original deadline (October 31), will go into effect on November 1. People who purchase memberships after October 31 will have their discount go into effect on January 1, 2020. ”

Orca has raised approximately $29,600 towards its goal (which is based on 2,000 members). By offering donations for those who live out of town, it is hoped to reach the goal faster; however, memberships are preferred.
