Two Families Return Home Thanks to NWCDC Support and Pierce County Transit Donated Homes
By Janet Morrell June 26 2026
When fire swept through the BJHC neighborhood and destroyed 10 homes, it left families displaced and a community shaken. But through the persistence of NWCDC and the generosity of partners like Pierce County Transit, hope has returned.
Thanks to a $1 million Capital Improvement Grant secured by NWCDC, critical infrastructure repairs are underway — and two families have already moved back in. One grateful resident is finally home again, while a family of six has upgraded from a cramped 2-bedroom to a spacious 3-bedroom home.
Six lots remain available. The work continues.
This is a story of partnership, persistence, and community strength. NWCDC worked tirelessly alongside Pierce County Transit and local stakeholders to secure funding, repair infrastructure, and ensure that displaced families had a real path back home. The road has been long — but for two families, it has led them exactly where they belong.
